Brother Steinhart Reports Eagle Sighting

Coach Hirsh

Brother Hirsh is an assistant coach for the Washington & Lee Lacrosse team which boasts a respectable 6-4 record halfway through the 2011 season. The Generals play in the highly competetive Old Dominion Athletic Conference of Div. III Virginia Schools. My guess is that the team gets a little extra team spirit from Denver Boone's sidelines presence.

Judd and The Case of the NYC Comb Over
Robbie, Christina, Alyssa, and I went to New York on Sunday, and called Judd and Becky two weeks before. They had been at the cottage in Virginia and as they drove up to Connecticut, they stopped to have dinner with us. It was fabulous!!!! Around the table are: Becky, Judd, Alyssa (22), Christina (27 and living in NYC), Robbie, Sarah Bell (a Trinity friend of Christina), and of course me with “comb over”.
We went to a “mussels bar” told many great stories (many were embellished), but a great time was had by all. It was a very special evening for me and so good to see Judd and Becky. My two daughters were just in stitches with Judd’s humor!!!

Over the top
This last week was what I would consider “over the top.” 18 of my friends and family “orchestrated” a trip to Seattle, Washington, to play golf at the Chris Elliott Fund for Glioblastoma Brian Cancer Research. This foundation was started in 2002 (9 years ago) when Chris Elliott passed away after a 2 year battle with the disease (see ChrisElliottfund.org for more information). My great friend, Phil Ahern found the only golf tournament in the country for this cause, and within 48 hours almost all had committed to flying to Seattle on Sunday, July 25, playing in the tournament on Monday, and attending all their festivities. These friends and family came from Colorado, Sacramento, and of course MPLS. One of our “teams” actually came in second place!!! There were 120 players played (including Celebrities) at Snoqualmie Ridge TPC course just east of Seattle. We were the hit of the tournament, having traveling all the way to participate. In the end, we gave an additional $7,500 to their fund raising efforts.
This is why I say it was over the top. I am so indebted to everybody who came with us.
The next day, all 18 of us traveled to Tacoma, Washington (about 45 minutes away) and played Chamber’s Bay in one of the most gorgeous settings anyone can see. It overlooks Puget Sound and is built in an old mine quarry. The US Amateur will be held there in two weeks as well as the 2015 US Open. Every hole has breathtaking scenes---you don’t even want to finish! Phil's lovely wife and our good friend, Julie, donated wisp bands for all of us to wear! Another amazing act of kindness!
See the pictures of our brothers who joined us!!!!!

Doug Hirsh - All Alpha Zeta

Art-
Just completed my 3rd world lacrosse championship in Manchester, UK. Team took home the bronze. We just made too many mistakes in the prelim round to get to the championship game.
Current DU player, Todd Baxter, was a star on the English national team. His father is British so he could play for the English team.Todd will be a senior this fall.
This concludes my playing experience as my knees can't take any more abuse. Will try and do reffing. The 2014 world championships are in Denver and DU will house all the national teams. There were 30 nations here this year and more are expected in 2014.
Take care-
Doug
