         our mid-seventies.

Mike Mann 1953-2026

 

 

        Mike Mann 1953-2025. A great friend and an epic Beta brother.  Born in Chicago "Mannski" was an all city linebacker and received a football scholarship to The University of Tampa. Injuries shut him down and our world changed when he arrived at DU in 1972. One of only two finance majors Mannski was the anchor of several All Fraternity Flag Football championships and was the star pitcher of the 1974 All School Softball Championship. Brother Mann was awarded the prestigious Order of Omega for his outstanding IFC contributions in 1975. A regular at Club LB Brother Mann shall forever be remembered as a Beta legend and friend.

                                                 J.D. Noel 1946-2025

                        Gentleman, Friend, Beta

Joseph “JD” Donald Noel, Jr. passed away peacefully in Las Vegas on April 4, 2025, at the age of 78, following a prolonged illness.

 

Born on December 3, 1946, in Vineland, New Jersey, JD was the beloved only child of Joseph and Elsie Noel. His early education at local schools led him to the Valley Forge Military Academy, followed by the University of Denver’s School of Hotel and Restaurant Management. During his time at DU, JD was a devoted member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity, serving with distinction as Chapter President from 1968 to 1969.

 

JD’s career in the casino industry began at the Resorts International in Atlantic City before his talents brought him to Las Vegas. He was a fixture at Caesar’s Palace and later served as the Assistant Manager of Paris Las Vegas, where he was widely respected as a consummate professional and a devoted mentor to his colleagues.

 

Beyond the casino floor, JD was an accomplished, low-handicap golfer. He was a regular on the greens, competing in local tournaments and collecting numerous trophies alongside his close friends. His passion for fast sports cars and stylish dress were his hallmark, no less so his refined and polished manner.

 

Known for his wisdom, wit, and generous spirit, JD was a kind friend to all who knew him. He is survived by his longtime friend, Randi Rogers, her husband Steve as well as a community of fraternity brothers and colleagues who will forever remember his charismatic charm and enduring friendship. The profound outpouring of love, respect, and admiration by those who knew him stand as tribute to a true gentleman.

 

Of Ever Honored Memory: A memorial service to celebrate JD's life was held at Shadow Hills Church in Las Vegas on May 23, 2025.

 The boys of summer traveled from all across the country to Squirrel Island, ME in mid-September by way of boats, planes, and automobiles. Hiking the Island, harbor excursions, and fine dining (lobstah) at the Veasey summer cottage, complemented a week of great fun and camaraderie.

Viva Las Vegas

Doug Hirsh was in Vegas for a family wedding and stopped by the Paris Las Vegas Casino to catch up with Past Beta House President J.D. Noel. J.D. has built a long and storied career and is the manager for both the Paris and the Horseshoe Casinos. Handsome dudes.

Jim Beale 1950-2023

 Just learned of the passing of Brother James Martin Beale, Jr. Jim or "Mr. Beale" as we liked to call him was friendly, laid back, and a life-long Beta. RIP Señor Beale.

Naples IX and the Boyz of April

 

So this was it—the last Boyz weekend at Casa Uihlein. Hurricane Ian, the third costliest weather disaster on record and the worst Hurricane to hit Florida since 1935 pronounced the end of nine years of brotherly homecomings in the Sunshine State. Sadly Brother Veasey was unable to attend, but more reunions will take place as the flame cannot be extinguished—yet at some new place and time as we accept Father Time and savor the memories of reunions past. 

Thank God I'm a Beta.

Steven J. Steinhart, C.H.S.E, CHME., is recognized as one of the nation’s leading hospitality sales consultants. To date over 40,000 hotel salespeople have increased their productivity by attending the Accelerated Hospitality Sales Training Programs. In 2022 he was named one of the Top 15 Global Hospitality Sales Trainers by the International Hospitality Institute.

Having spent twelve years with Hyatt Hotels Corporation, he directed the sales and marketing efforts at airport locations, suburb properties and major city center convention destinations. Steinhart was also responsible for monitoring the sales and marketing efforts at resort destinations and pre-opening properties prior to establishing Steinhart & Associates.

Steinhart has spoken on the topic of hotel sales and marketing at the American Society of Association Executives, the International Association of Convention and Visitors Bureaus, Society of Government Meeting Planners and Meeting Planners International.

He lives in Pebble Beach, California with his wife Lisa.  Together they have four children.

"Love living in Pebble Beach.  Still working and loving it but have reduced the travel.  2 million miles on United, (you’re welcome Loveland), is enough.  Still in touch with many brothers.  Often in touch with Andy Smith, Mannski, Lowski, Jimmy Kopka and Gary Bachar.  Recently had a terrific conversation with Rick Pederson who just got married for the first time.  He sounded through the roof happy.  In touch with Dave Lunger via facebook and Tommy Hays via SC Football.  He and Steve Bruce still attend every Note Dame - USC game.  See Mark Barber at different golf events.  Spoke to Johnny Miller not long ago and he is great.  I think Johnny is on the DU BOD."

Besides being a fabulous grandfather and role model, Doug Hirsh continues his duties as assistant coach for the men's D-3 lacrosse team at Washington & Lee University in Lexington, VA. The Generals field a perennially strong team in the old Dominion Athletic Conference. Denver Boone stays in great shape and apparently he's growing his beard to take a shot as yet another school mascot.

Every once in a blue moon brother Gray and I get together—this time at the renowned Park Lunch in Newburyport on a snowy day in February. Steve resides near Portsmouth, NH and is active running his real estate business which stretches as far north as Lake Winnipesaukee and Wolfeboro. A good man—I promise we will do this more often.

Naples 8

After a one year hiatus, the result of the 2020-21 pandemic, brothers Bodell, Everhart, Loveland, Veasey, Uihlein and Pledge Evans reunited in Naples for one more long weekend of friendship, brotherhood and sunshine courtesy of D-boy at his lovely winter home on the sandy beaches of Naples, Florida. Usual fine dining and daytime excursions including a pontoon cruise to Marco Island and a road trip to Pine Island to pay a visit to the Baron von Stumm (Tim).

TB's Marriage Celebration

In February 2021, mid-pandemic, Tod and Wendy tied the knot in a small ceremony in Essex, CT. They managed a brief covid safe Honeymoon in Kennebunkport, ME before stopping by the Veaseys for a socially distanced lunch and an introduction to his lovely new bride whereupon he was presented with an engraved Loving Cup from brothers Everhart, Loveland, Sully, Veasey, Uihlein, and Pledge Evans to mark the occasion.

Next, on the weekend of September 17, 2021 the happy couple hosted a covid free marriage celebration with a select group of family and friends.  The aforementioned boyz together with spouses arrived from across the country as well as Bobby and Susie Parsons who cruised by boat over from Fishers Island for the occasion. D-boy hosted a Friday night dinner for the Beta party and TB and Wendy which was followed of by a classic Yankee marriage celebration at the Old Lyme Beach Club on Saturday.
